JOYCE A. SMITH, C.G.A., C.F.P.
Managing Partner and Senior Service Provider
Joyce has been in public practice since 1967. For 17 years prior to starting her own practice, she was one of ten partners in an accounting firm serving mid-Vancouver Island, British Columbia. She has held a special interest and involvement in management consulting and establishment of performance measures for companies.
Joyce is an active and involved member in many community and association activities. Her involvement with her professional association has included compliance reviews for the C.G.A. Association of B.C. She takes pride in her service on the boards of a number of community organizations includes Rotary, Kinsmen Child Development Centre, Nanaimo Festival Professional Theatre, United Way, B.C. Ferry Corporation, Malaspina College Foundation and Mid-Island Science, Technology and Innovation Council.
CARLA BOEHM, CGA, Business Management Diploma, B. Ed.
Senior Service Provider
Carla co-owned a family business for 14 years, which has given her both bookkeeping and administration experience in running a business. She completed a two-year diploma program in Business Management with the Accounting option and is currently a fifth year student in the CGA Program.
THERESA DYCK
Senior Service Provider - Outsourced Accounting Manager
Theresa comes to us with 5 years of previous experience in public practice accounting. The strong interpersonal skills she brings contribute greatly to our sense of team. Theresa is a skilled problem solver who is ready to find solutions when clients call with issues, which makes her position as Outsourced Accounting Manager a good fit. Theresa is currently enrolled in the CGA Program at the 5th year level.
CHRIS BARD, B.A. Bus.
Intermediate Service Provider
Chris graduated from Malaspina University-College, now Vancouver Island University, in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, Major in Accounting. Chris has been employed at J.A. Smith and Associates Inc. since his graduation. Chris' positive attitude, sense of humour and diligence are a great benefit to the firm and his clients.
MARK ALLAN, CGA CFP
Senior Service Provider
Mark received his designation as a Certified General Accountant in 1999 while working for Canada Revenue Agency. He left the government to work in public practice in early 2001. Mark became a Certified Fraud Examiner in early 2002. While working in Yellowknife he served on the Board of Governors for CGA - Northwest Territories/Nunavut. Mark's preferred areas of practice are taxation and forensic accounting. Mark is a man with varied interests including photography, sailing and woodworking. Mark remains active in the community through his involvement in his local Kinsmen Club.
TAMMY WHEELER, BBA
Intermediate Service Provider
Tammy graduated from the University of New Brunswick in 1999 and came to the West Coast shortly after. Tammy brings with her an infectious positive attitude and many years of experience in sales and administration making her a superior service provider. Tammy is currently enrolled in the CGA program at the third year level.
BOBBIE BUCKLE
Account Representative
Bobbie is a recent graduate from Malaspina University College, now Vancouver Island University, earning a BBA in Accounting with Distinction. Bobbie is currently enrolled in the CGA program at the 5th year level. In her free time, Bobbie enjoys working as a professional tutor in accounting for Malaspina students and volunteering with Operation Red Nose and the Salvation Army Christmas Hamper program. Previously Bobbie has served on the board of various youth sporting organizations and was Vice President of the Malaspina Business Students Association. Currently, Bobbie is a member of the Ladysmith Women’s Business Network.
BONNIE DALGLEISH
Billing Manager
Bonnie has owned and operated a variety of businesses. Her interest in accounting and bookkeeping started with a night school course and a need to do her own company books. She was hired by the course instructor and have worked in Public practice ever since. She has extensive knowledge in all aspects of bookkeeping including cash flow management, government reproting both provincial and federal as well as WCB returns. She also has experience in Notice to Reader and Review Engagement work.
She is actively involved with and the Treasurer of Citizens on Patrol and Ergondragon Boating & Fitness Club. Dragon boat racing and photography are her passions.
LAURIE POHL
Receptionist, Customer Service Manager
Laurie is known by all the clients and staff at J.A.Smith & Associates as a person with a smile and laugh for everyone. She has the reputation of "going the extra mile" as our customer service manager. Her extensive customer service and organization skills were honed during the 10 years she co-owned a family business. Prior to joining the firm, Laurie worked as a legal secretary for 8 years.
SUSAN HARRIS
Administrative Assistant
Susan has spent the last seven years on Vancouver Island working as a Receptionist/Administrative Assistant. Susand shares with the firm her excellent organizational skills and strong customer service background.
She enjoys golfing with her husband and downhill skiiing with her children.She is also an active leader with the Girl Guides of Canada.

MARK KELLY
Senior Service Provider - Senior Controller
Mark is a CA with the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and is working on obtaining his CGA qualification in Canada. Mark trained with a Big 4 firm, his most recent position being an Associate and managing an office for a mid-sized accounting firm.
Mark enjoys systems development and CFO work with his business clients. Outside of work Mark enjoys spending time with his four children, assisting with his spouse's small retail company and clay target shooting at Nanaimo Fish and Game Club.

Carol has long term experience as a bookkeeper and supervisor in the consumer electronics industry. Her keen interest in tax matters led Carol to work for over 10 years in personal tax return preparation. In planning for the years ahead, Carol and her husband moved to Vancouver Island to a more relaxing way of life.

Service Provider - Bookkeeper
Kirsty comes to us with over 15 years experience in bookkeeping. Her previous work in an accounting firm has given her considerable experience in a variety of businesses, giving her a great deal of versatility and knowledge. Kirsty's personal interests include serving on the board for Girl Guides of Canada and the parent advisory council of her children's school.

Senior Service Provider -Controller/ Bookkeeper
Nancy graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1995 with a Bachelor in Business Administration in Accounting, Finance and International Business. She earned her CGA designation in 2004. Nancy has worked in industry for over 10 years. Her positive attitude, good sense of humor and hard-working manner are an asset to the firm and her clients. Nancy currently lives in Pitt Meadows on a blueberry farm.

Steve graduated from Vancouver Island University in June 2007 with a two year diploma course in Information Technology and Applied Systems. In August 2008 Steve became a Microsoft Small Business Specialist.
Steve enjoys and plays sports of all kinds, especially hockey, baseball and beach volleyball. He also loves everything and anything to do with technology.

Bill, a professional educator in the public school system for over thirty years, has taught computer topics to several thousand teenagers and adults.
BPSi's trainer since 2007, Bill has introduced new Business Connect users to the system, developing a series of lessons to guide them through its features and helping them fit Business Connect into their organization.
Bill is pursuing his own studies in SharePoint in order to provide higher-level training and support to clients. Meeting the individual needs of his clients is his highest priority.
